How To Host A Victorian Tea Party Ideas Recipes
A Victorian Tea Party would be the most elegant of all. Everything in Victorian times was done lavishly. So break out your grandmothers china, silver, crystal & serving pieces. The fancier the better. Of course if you have a truly prized possession that would break your heart if it was damaged, please don't use for the party. Accidents do happen! Before you get your house ready & prepare your food, you have to send out invitations.
INVITATION IDEAS
There are so many options here. With today's computer programs you can make some beautiful ones at home. Tuck an actual tea bags in the invitation. Perhaps make some using paper doilies & scrapbooking supplies.
DECORATING & SERVING
You will want to make the house as pretty as possible. Fresh flowers are a must, use them everywhere. I had a birthday tea in early June & I put vases of peonies everywhere, they are beautiful. Use traditional vases, or teapots that no longer have lids. Sometimes you can find then for a bargain since they no longer have a lid! Use candles both tapers & scattered votives or tea lights. I use some of those fancy shaped Christmas light that are sold now in all kinds of shapes. I have some pretty heart ones & some flower ones & even some dragonfly lights ( those are for the fairy tea party - see my page on fairy tea parties) Play soft music in the background. There are even tea party music CD's you can purchase. For tablecloths try lace or damask. Scatter silk rose petals on your table. Use real linen or fancy paper napkins. I found some monogrammed napkins at an antique store in California last year. They were inexpensive I guess because not too many people have an "O" monogram.
For Serving Pieces You Will Need At Least Some of the Following
Teapot Silver Or China
Sugar & Creamer
Salt & Pepper Shakers
Water Pitcher
Various Serving Trays
Tole Tray
China Serving Platters
Silver Serving Pieces
Crystal Serving Pieces
Crystal Plates
Crystal Bowls
Silverware
Pedestal Cake Plates
Porcelain or China Teacups
Pretty Plates(mix & match is OK)
Jam or Jelly Serving Jar
Demitasse or Fancy Spoons
You don't need to spend a lot of money. You can find some great bargains at your local thrift stores, flea markets & antique malls. Mix & Match is Definitely OK for teacups & saucers. Even mismatched sets are OK. Some I have been given as gifts, but most are from estate sales or thrift stores. I have at least 24 mix & match cups & saucers.
I love the pedestal cake plates or the tiered serving pieces. I have several I purchased at the Salvation Army. I bought a vintage Hobnail cake plate for . It has a repair on the pedestal part , but I cover with appropriate fancy ribbon! Be sure you use lots of scented candles, be creative with your candle holders. Use paper or tatted doily under or on your serving pieces.Be sure you have a nice glass or crystal on hand for water. Maybe not all of your guests drink tea.
To use for serving sugar or with teacups, or as party favors, be sure to see some of the demitasse spoons I sell. Aren't they sweet! Tie them up to a tea bag with a little satin ribbon & you have a darling tea party favor. If you can find some bargains, give each guest a fancy teacup to take home.
YUMMY FOOD TO SERVE
Offer your guests a variety of tea flavors. I leave them out in a lined basket. It is fun to use decorated sugar cubes & sugar tongs too!
TEA SANDWICHES
There are many varieties of tea sandwiches you can serve. Try to find a firmer style bread, cut the crust off & cut sandwiches either diagonally so you have 2 triangle sandwiches or in 4's for a bit smaller sandwiches. Cucumber sandwiches have long been a tea party tradition. This is an easy one that everyone likes. Just spread softened cream cheese on bread & top with thinly sliced cucumbers. Simple. For a fall or Christmas time tea try turkey & cranberry sauce sandwiches. Use your favorite egg salad or chicken salad recipe. try adding sliced almonds to your chicken salad recipe, yum! For other fillings you can use, watercress, tomatoes, cheese, deli meats, smoked salmon or ham salad. For Children spread softened cream cheese on bread & top with jelly, cut with cookie cutter. On top of the sandwich spread just a bit of softened cream cheese & dust with sprinkles.
SCONES BISCUITS COOKIES & CAKES
You cannot have a Victorian Tea Party without scones. You can find a variety of scone recipes on the internet. I have used scone mixes before as well. If you have a Panera Bread Store in your area, they have wonderful orange scones. You might like to have traditional devonshire cream, lemon curd or jelly or jams for your scones & biscuits.
Lemon Curd Recipe:
3 eggs1/2 cup fresh lemon juice1/2 cup salted butter 1 cup sugarMix together melted butter & sugar. Add well beaten eggs & lemon juice. Place in double boiler or over simmering water. Stir continuously for 15 minutes or until thick. Allow to cool & refrigerate. Will keep for about 2 weeks.
Traditional Tea Cakes Recipe:
4 cups flour1 cup butter2 egg yolks, beatenmilk1 egg white, beaten1/4 cup sugarCaraway seedsMix all ingredients together, mix to paste with a little warm milk, cover with a cloth and let stand for about an hour in a warm place. Roll out cut with round or shaped cutter & bake on lightly greased or sprayed sheet at 350 degrees until they are golden brown. For other treats serve a variety of breads, cakes & cookies. Serve sliced banana bread, shortbread cookies, your favorite holiday cookies, lady fingers, lemon cookies or biscuits, orange cake, peach or strawberry tarts or tartlets, petit fors, applesauce cake, brownies or fudge, carrot cake, gingerbread, or tiny cupcakes.
TEA PARTY THEMES
Do you need an excuse to have a Victorian Tea Party?? Next time you host a baby or bridal shower, make it a tea party, a birthday party for a friend, a Christmas tea is always beautiful. Host one for your ladies group at church or ladies Bible study. Celebrate an anniversary, invite over your grandma, or granddaughters, let your little girl invite her friends for a fancy dress up day! Combine a tea party with an etiquette class, have a garden tea party in the summer, and of course there is always Valentine's Day, my favorite. Raw Food Diet - What Can You Eat on a Raw Food Diet?
If you've given any thought to eating a healthy diet or losing weight fast in a healthy, natural way, then you may have given some thought to going on a raw food diet. A raw food diet is a raw vegan diet you can eat and be satisfied for a lifetime. It's a natural raw food detox diet too.
I've been eating raw foods for many years, actually 100% raw foods to be exact, and I enjoy perfect health. I also have not had any weight problems since starting and maintain a fit body even today.
If you know about the value of a raw food diet you know that people who eat raw vegan foods are healthier than people who eat the standard American diet - the diet we've all been raised on. I'm one of those too who used to eat cooked, canned, packaged, refined, and processed foods until I was diagnosed with breast cancer and also had multiple ailments including fibromyalgia, arthritis, acid reflux, chronic sinus conditions, digestive problems and numerous other medical problems.
There really is no such thing as a set or standard raw diet. People who eat raw foods decide for themselves which raw foods they want to eat. Of course it's good to eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables and nuts and seeds and you want to make sure to eat plenty of greens - kale, spinach, romaine, red and green lettuce and so on. Fruits are so delicious and you have a wide choice depending on the season. I love strawberries and fresh peaches!
You can eat a wide variety of nuts and seeds too. Sesame seeds in tahini for example and sunflower seed in recipe like sunflower seed pate. I love sunflower seed pate and eat it every day. Or make date-almond crusts for raw desserts or easy homemade almond milk. You can make lots of juices and fruit smoothies and almond milkshakes! A raw food diet is never boring, always filling.
If you wonder if you're going to get enough protein, of course you will. There is plenty of protein in every living thing. Every fruit and vegetable contains protein. I haven't eaten any grains, dairy or meat for many years and I have lots of muscles and I'm physically active. No deficiencies of any kind and in superior health. As a former nurse I know how to recognize deficiencies.
So if you're considering eating even a partially raw diet you'll surely benefit your body and may even find that you're getting rid of ailments and/or losing weight fast.
I lost ten pounds so fast when I started I was pleasantly surprised. But a vegan raw food diet is full of life energy, nutrients, vitamins, minerals, trace minerals, enzymes antioxidants and phytonutrients. Whereas a cooked food diet doesn't have much in the way of nutrients left - so much is cooked out of it. When foods are cooked at temperatures over 108 degrees the good nutrients are damaged or dead. That's why we call cooked food dead food.
So there are lots of things you can eat on a raw food die whether you eat the standard American diet, are a vegetarian or vegan. There is a wide variety to choose from and many recipes you can make including lots of raw desserts, raw pies, living "fudge," living "brownies," raw crackers and raw entrees of all kinds plus lots more. And you can quickly make lots of raw food recipes that kids love too. You'll be helping your body in many ways and in many ways that may surprise you if you give it a try. A natural weight loss and detox diet too without irritating cleanses. Why not enjoy superior health like I do.

Quick and Easy Fudge Pie
When is a brownie not just a brownie? When it's a Quick and Easy Fudge Pie, of course!
If you're like most people, you love brownies. But when you get a hankering for something just a bit more "fudgy" than a regular brownie, make this Quick and Easy Fudge Pie, which is a cross between a regular brownie and creamy chocolate fudge. It's even delicious enough to serve to company if you dress it up a little (see note below).
QUICK AND EASY FUDGE PIE
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. flour
4 heaping Tbsp. cocoa or 2 sq. chocolate, melted
Blend above ingredients, then add:
1/2 c. melted butter
2 whole eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
Pour into greased 9 inch pie plate. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool. Place in refrigerator before serving. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
NOTE: Dress up each serving of pie with a topping of ice cream or whipped cream and a fresh berry or a few chocolate chips for garnish. Make swirls of chocolate syrup on each plate and lightly dust the whole serving with a little sifted cocoa powder.
For a hot chocolate brownie sundae, heat some hot syrup. Top a slice of brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, then pour hot chocolate sauce over the ice cream and sprinkle on a few pecan pieces.
Wow! Now you've got a dessert that is definitely "not just a brownie." Now you've got an impressive Fudge Pie brownie dessert that's perfect for even your most important dinner guests (you don't have to tell them it was Quick and Easy).

How to Bake Eggless Brownies?
Ingredients:
Brownie Mix of your choice (I used Duncan Hines Chocolate Lover's Brownies Double Fudge)
Cold Water - 1/3 cup
Vegetable Oil - 3 tablespoons
Flax seed meal (ground flax seed) - 1 teaspoon
Water - 1/4 cup
Vanilla Extract - 1 teaspoon (not mentioned in the packet)
Walnuts - 1/2 cup (optional)
Procedure:
1. Preheat oven to 350F (325F for glass pans)
2. Empty brownie mix into bowl.
3. Add 1/3 cup cold water.
4. Add 3 tablespoons oil. (Actually 1/3 cup of oil was mentioned in the packet) 5. In a small cup add the flax seed meal and slowly add the water and whisk it with a fork and add it to the brownie mix.
6. I chose to add vanilla extract also.
7. Stir everything until well blended (about 40-50 strokes)
8. Now add the nuts and combine it once again.
9. Generously grease the brownie pan. I used a non-stick 8″x8″ pan.
10. Spread the mixture in the pan. 11. Bake it anywhere between 30-38 minutes. (Check the instructions in the package for detailed baking time). I baked mine for 40 minutes. But I think I should have taken it around 38 minutes itself, because I had little cracks on the top. That was the only negative thing with these brownies, otherwise they were unbelievably moist and gooey. We did not taste the flax seed at all. Just be sure that the brownie cools out completely before you can cut into squares.
Notes:
1. Buying the brownie mix - If you are a vegetarian, be sure to check the ingredients, because some brands contain lard, tallow (animal fat). The brand I chose did not have animal fat.
2. I bought the double fudge brownies, which had a chocolate syrup pack, which had to be added to the brownie batter. But I omitted it because this was the first time I was going to bake brownies and that too without eggs. So I did not want to experiment too much.
3. Egg substitute: I came across in many books and websites that ground flax seed is a good substitute for eggs while baking. But the ratio of flax seed meal to water was different in each and every place. I recently bought a vegan cook book and there were a lot of baking recipes using flax seed meal. So I decided to used the proportion given in that book. For every egg in a recipe, use 1 teaspoon of flax seed meal mixed with 1/4 cup of water.
4. Checking the doneness of brownies: I read in the same book that inserting a toothpick to check the doneness does not work for brownies. Instead 'the touch test' was recommended. When you touch the top of the brownies, it should not leave an indentation. If it does, the batter is still soft, so you need to bake it for another couple of minutes.
Enjoy!
